The goal of this Conference - and a possibility at the same time - that we can show the
Hungarian natural heritages in its invariable or hardly modificated form.
The great plain of Hortobágy, one of Europe's largest protected prairies; the Puszta. It seems a
barren field, but it is full of life, and has an extraordinarily rich fauna. It is the genetic bank of the
unique Hungarian Grey Cattle, Mangalitsa Pig and the Racka Sheep with its characteristic spiral
shaped horns. This is the habitat of rare birds, Bustard (Otis), Meadow Eagle, and it is the favourite
resting place of migrating birds.
Tokaj with its landscape - one of our World Heritage Sites – surrounded with its noble flora has
become world famous for its wine. The wine, which is produced there, has been bearing the name
of ”the king of wines and the wine of kings” for centuries. It is due to the uniqueness of vintage
and fermentation. This wine is ordinarily drunk to keep our health.
Lake Tisza was formed from a natural river. Separated flora and fauna were created here. This
lake is our second largest water (127 km2 with 80 km shoreline). It provides an excellent place
of conferences and relaxation, too.
The vividness and diversity of nature can be seen from these above mentioned contents.
The animals and birds on the Puszta creating a genetic bank , as well as the hillsides with
their plants and wines, bringing their fame and reputation, and the lake which got its natural
fish and plant species from the river are all the appearing forms and evidences of biodiversity.
We are lucky that we were able to make them parts of our public treasure with hard work
and financial sacrifices.
Natural Heritage can be a plant, or the roots, stems, leaves or fruits. It can be also an animal
or the water flowing towards the oceans with all the life in it. Plains, mountains, caves or
castle ruins are also a kind of Heritage.
How do you appreciate the heritage given by nature?
Which is your favorite or most popular (visited by tourists) protected area in your country?
Cross-border preserved areas: How can you work with other neighbouring countries together?
Natural Environment Regeneration:
e.g.: coral reef re-generation, tree planting, securing environment for protected- and
endangered species
Preservation of the environment with the help of modern technology (e.g. Renewable Energies)
